Camiros, Ltd. prepared a comprehensive plan for the historic City of Galena, Illinois. A historic community located in northwestern Illinois, Galena contains the largest square mile concentration of nineteenth century architecture in the United States. As a result of its unique architectural history, Galena has evolved into one of the premier tourism communities in the Midwest. With a population of approximately 4,000, Galena attracts over one million visitors annually.

Although the tourism industry has provided Galena with success, its popularity has also caused a variety of problems such as limited parking, inefficient transportation, expanding commercial pressures and a challenge to the preservation of Galena's historic integrity. As part of the comprehensive planning process, Camiros addressed these issues through the development of a downtown plan, highway corridor study, river corridor plan and innovative land use guidelines to balance new growth with the preservation of a small town's historic character.
