Mundelein, Illinois Southside Commercial Corridor Plan
This study was undertaken to identify development opportunities within the Southside Commercial Corridor of the Village of Mundelein, Illinois. This is an area of Northeast Illinois that is undergoing rapid change due to significant levels of reinvestment throughout the region. Positioned at the intersection of several regional transportation corridors, South Mundelein sought to capitalize upon the visibility and traffic flow occasioned by its location.
The Southside Commercial Corridor Plan is intended to guide land use and development character decisions regarding future development activity within the area. Extensive analysis and research was conducted over a period of ten months to assess existing conditions and region market characteristics so that a range of development options could be considered. Throughout the process, a series of public meetings were sponsored to solicit community input.
As a result, key strategies were identified that provided the basis for a program of key projects designed to fulfill the community's "Vision" for the future of the area. The plan is action-oriented. It provides step-by-step instruction for adopting and promoting the plan, establishing a program and strategy to finance the plan, and identifying and making regulatory changes to implement the plan. Full color graphics are included that clearly illustrate the development potential of the area so that the Village can clearly communicate its interests to prospective developers.
