Downtown and Marina Plan and Program

This plan outlined proposed land uses and a development strategy for several large, under-utilized Lake Michigan waterfront properties adjacent to downtown Escanaba. The plan proposed a major marina linked to the downtown business district in order to facilitate revitalization of the downtown area. The plan was prepared in association with Donohue & Associates and United Design Associates.

The consultants assessed the market conditions for a marina and associated tourist-oriented commercial development. The conceptual design component of the plan was prepared during a week-long "charette" involving an interdisciplinary team of planners, urban designers, engineers and marina specialists. The results of the planning project were presented to the public and business community in a series of informational meetings. The city then pursued land assembly and project funding.
