Southside Neighborhood Strategic Plan
Racine, Wisconsin
Sustainable Racine, a non-profit economic development organization in Racine, hired Camiros to prepare a neighborhood strategic plan for the Southside of Racine, an urban neighborhood with a population of approximately 12,000. The area includes a diverse mix of both up-scale and modest housing, an aging neighborhood commercial core, and a major industrial employment center housing six of Racine County's 20 largest employers including St Lukes Hospital.. The neighborhood sits directly south of Racine's thriving downtown, has direct lakefront access and is home to Frank Lloyd Wright's well-known Johnson Wax Company headquarters. The Steering Committee includes representatives of the City of Racine, Racine County, area residents, area industrial businesses, community institutions, and neighborhood based housing and social service organizations. The final plan, with a strong emphasis on implementation of several catalyst projects, will outline Quality of Life, Housing, Commercial and Industrial strategies to be undertaken by the public sector, the private sector, local non-profits and community residents.
