Good Shepherd Hospital Reuse Plan Back to the index page

Camiros created a master plan for the expansion of Good Shepherd Hospital to accommodate over one million square feet of floor area. The central concept of the plan was to organize the expansion of facilities in a way that protected and enhanced the semi-rural character of the Lake Barrington area. The site was analyzed in terms of key elements of semi-rural character and the proposed master plan emphasized the retention and re-creation of those important landscape elements. Included in the proposal was the reuse of existing farm building clusters as specialized medical facilities, on-site housing or administrative offices. The preservation of open space in the form of farm fields, pastures, prairies, wetlands and woodlands reinforced the central concept.

While protecting the character of the community, the plan also achieved the development goals of the hospital on this 340 acre site. The campus was proposed to contain biotechnical research and development facilities, housing for the well elderly, a life-care center and specialized non-acute treatment facilities such as a sports medicine clinic.
