Tinley Park, Illinois
"Old Town" Downtown Plan
Camiros, Ltd. was retained by the Village of Tinley Park
and the Regional Transportation Authority to prepare transit-oriented
development (TOD) and streetscape design options for Tinley
Parks historic Old Town area. The goal was to create
a lively, attractive and pedestrian-oriented central gathering
place focused around historic buildings and a planned new
Metra commuter rail station.
Implementation of the TOD plan included streetscape improvements,
parking lot landscaping, the development of a new town square,
and a new train station. High-quality pedestrian links provide
human-scaled connections from commercial areas to, and within
the train station site. As a result of these projects, Tinley
Parks Old Town has become more walkable with the addition
of gathering space for concerts and other community events,
more attractive due to substantial investments in renovating
highly visible properties, more transit-friendly with the
new Metra station, and more economically vibrant. Old Town
Tinley has emerged as the Dining Capital of the South
Suburbs and The Place to Be.
