Tinley Park, Illinois Tinley Park Facade Recommendations
Camiros was retained by the Village of Tinley Park and the Regional Transportation Authority to investigate transit-oriented development and design options in the historic Old Town area of the Village. As part of this work, which occurred in a charette fashion with the merchants and property owner's organization, the historic commission, and the City Council, Camiros was asked to prepare façade improvement recommendations for 10 key buildings in the area and included Tinley Park's two Metra stations. The final product was presented in guideline format. The Facade Design Guidelines document encouraged the renovation of commercial facades to reflect the appearance of the district in the early 1900s, when downtown Tinley Park was a bustling commercial center centered on the railroad tracks and serving a large rural area. It was the intention of the Guidelines to not only encourage facade renovations to build upon the Village's efforts to reestablish Oak Park Avenue as a unique, pedestrian-friendly commercial district, but they were also intended to guide the design of appropriate new development.
