Grayslake, Illinois Downtown Design Program
The Grayslake Downtown Design Program was prepared to provide a comprehensive direction for the enhancement of the village's downtown area. This direction started with an overall design concept, which established a theoretical approach based on rural/prairie forms and images. This concept was then applied to various components of the downtown environment. The downtown area was defined in terms of eight component areas and detailed prototypical designs were prepared for each. These designs were accompanied by extensive narrative and notes that related the design to the underlying concept as well as describing how the design solved specific downtown problems. The final product took the form of a downtown design package of design development materials, specifying the layout of improvements, materials and methods of construction to be used.
