Urbandale Comprehensive Plan & Economic Development Study

Urbandale was a city of approximately 20,000 located along Interstates 35 and 80 in a growing portion of the Des Moines area. Much of the Urbandale planning area was expected to see growth over the next several years.

The Comprehensive Plan and Economic Development Study for Urbandale, Iowa went beyond the standard components of a general land use plan. It established a series of potential growth scenarios for the city, each emphasizing a different development character. Three scenarios were developed to help the community identify what areas to annex and what land uses to accommodate. The expected population, development density and traffic generated under each scenario were calculated and assessed for their fiscal impacts on the city.
