Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City Comprehensive Rewrite of Zoning Ordinance
Camiros, Ltd. was part of a five firm team of planning, legal, economic and urban design consultants hired by the City of Salt Lake to prepare the first comprehensive revision of the city's zoning ordinance since 1927. The team included the following firms: Gillies, Stransky, Brems, Smith (Architects), Camiros, Ltd. (Planners), Rudnick & Wolfe (Attorneys), Geddes, Brecher, Qualls, Cunningham (Urban Design), Wikstrom Economic & Planning Consultants, and Fabian & Clendenin (Local Attorneys). The ordinance was intended to convey a transition from "traditional" zoning to "performance" zoning. The firm's responsibilities in this work program were to develop the substantive sections of the ordinance, including the district regulations, site plan review regulations, parking and landscaping requirements. Special attention was given to the development of specialized zoning controls for unique mixed-use neighborhoods surrounding the downtown. In addition, the new ordinance was especially sensitive to issues involving changes of land use or building function within the already built-up areas.
