The City of Decatur and Macon County have begun developing a Comprehensive Plan to guide future development over the next 20 years. This Plan will set a vision for what we want our community to become and the steps needed to meet that goal.

Ultimately, it is your future and your plan. The purpose of this website is to keep you informed and help you remain involved in the process. The Plan began on November 15, 2006 and will take approximately 18 months to complete. As we move forward, there will be opportunities to participate in town hall meetings, community surveys and workshops.

Please use this website as your reference for staying informed about the project and communicating with us. Questions or comments? Email us at maconco@camiros.com.

UPDATE!

August 24-26, 2007

Several hundred people came together over the course of three days to plan for the future of Macon County and its communities. Town Hall meetings were held at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth, the Mount Zion Public Library, the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Main Street Church of God in Decatur. The next step in this planning process will be another set of public meetings to be held in September 2007. Please see the events page for more information.

Citizens answer questions on a series of dot maps at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur, including questions about open space, beautification, traffic and entertainment.

Each group discussed their concerns and what kind of vision they have for their community in 20 years in breakout sessions at the Mount Zion Public Library.

A representative from each small group at the Main Street Church of God in Decatur shared their top planning priorities with the other groups.
